Education
Ms. Parker graduated with distinction from the University of Michigan, Dearborn and obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science. She obtained her Juris Doctorate Degree from Wayne State University Law School in 1988. While at Wayne State Law School, Ms. Parker was selected to represent her school’s National Moot Court Team as a Brief writer. Her Team’s brief won First Place in their Region and they went on to the National Competition in New York, New York. Ms. Parker also represented Wayne State in an International Law Competition in her second year of Law School as both a Brief writer and Oralist.
Professional Experience
Ms. Parker has practiced as an attorney for twenty years. Ms. Parker received a highly coveted position with the Michigan Court of Appeals for two years after law school. Since then, her practice has been primarily in the areas of insurance defense with an emphasis on workers' compensation, representing both self-insured employers and insurance carriers. She has previously served as managing attorney for a large, national insurance carrier. Ms. Parker has frequently lectured and given seminars on workers' compensation to employers, insurance claims personnel, and self-insured groups. She currently serves as supervising partner of the Grand Rapids office.
Affiliations
Ms. Parker was elected to the State Workers' Compensation Section Council at the Spring Section Meeting in 2008. The Council consists of actively practicing plaintiff and defense attorneys that specialize in Workers' Compensation. One purpose is to keep abreast of changes in laws that affect our practice. This is a great honor to be selected by her peers to be a part of such a highly respected group of attorneys.
Ms. Parker is a member of the Workers' Compensation Section of the State Bar of Michigan and the Grand Rapids Bar Association. She was active in developing the Workers' Compensation Section of the Grand Rapids Bar Association and served as Chairperson in both 1998 and 2006.
Ms. Parker has coordinated and hosted an annual Seminar for West Michigan Attorneys in association with the Grand Rapids Bar Association’s Workers' Compensation Section from 2004 through 2007.
She was also the Committee Chairperson coordinating the State Workers' Compensation Spring Seminar in June 2008.
In addition, Ms. Parker is a Member of the Michigan Self-Insured Association, the State Workers' Compensation Section and the Grand Rapids Adjuster’s Association.
Ms. Parker is licensed to practice before the United States District Court Western and Eastern Districts, as well as Michigan State Courts.
